Roles

Professor - i profess - about human performance and computer science.

Director - wellthLab and the university's LivingLab

Principle Investigator -

  • research projects around enabling meaningful consent in our engagement with interactive tech
  • research projects around how to design tech to support health resilience  -

Faculty WellBeing Champion (how do you feel?)

Motivating Research Questions: How Do We Feel? How design to feel/be/perform better, longer?

How can we design interactive systems to help #makeNormalBetter, for all, @scale

That is a driving question in my research.

The question of how technologies can help in these contexts, perhaps especially for both cash and time poor citizens, is deeply troubling and complex - there is not an app for that.  So what is our role in this conversation as computer science innovators?

The approach i'm building is called "inbodied interaction" - aligning our interactive systems/technologies with how we function optimally as phyiso-neuro-chemical-omic systems - to support enabling our ability to achieve our aspirations.

Pain, performance, wellbeing, design, interactive technology, learning from /with technology

Methods to support time-limited engagement with technology to support thriving without the technology - that is - what's the exit strategy for a technology to support wellbeing? are we supposed to use a fitness tracker forever? if so why? if not, what's the cycle of interaction?

what is the minimal data dose?

Teaching

Teaching Interests

Human Computer Interaction - particularly around how to #makeNormalBetter - both for individuals, but especially for groups - if cultures don't support wellbeing, it's difficult to impossible to carry that by oneself and succeed.

Research Methods - how do we construct and convey resaerch? how do we present it? what are the conventions and how do we help them evolve?
