Dr Maurits De Planque

My main research interests are nano/microtechnology aspects of bioengineering, including semiconductor biosensors and ion channel nanopores. I deliver taught modules on micro/nanofabrication and on biosensing and supervise bioengineering projects for undergraduate and MSc students. I am Deputy Head of School (Education), programme leader for our MSc Electronic Engineering and MSc Micro and Nanotechnology, and represent the Faculty at the University's Academic Quality and Standards Committee (AQSC).

Research interests

I work at the interface between the material sciences and the life sciences, a research area that includes bioengineering. My main interest is the interaction between nano/microfabricated materials and biomolecules, specifically in the context of cell membranes and their molecular components.

Past projects include microfabrication approaches for single-molecule and single-cell biomedical studies such as ion channel drug screening and nanoparticle drug delivery, nanopore resistive pulse sensors and nanoscale field effector transistors for biomarker detection, as well as self-assembled biochemical networks.
