The Diploma in LanguagesClick to expand arrow

Date: 3 October, 2008
Location: LT B, University of Southampton, Avenue Campus, Southampton
Event type: Seminar

Join our consultation The Languages Diploma Project Team (led by GoSkills, the Sector Skills Council for Passenger Transport, working with CILT, the National Centre for Languages) is now embarking on consultation around the content of the Diploma. Terry Lamb, Chair of the Languages Diploma Development Partnership (DDP), invites you to one of the following consultation events to discuss the content of the new Languages Diploma. There are three venues to choose from: · Monday 29th September at Warwick University, Coventry – morning or afternoon sessions · Friday 3rd October at Southampton University – morning or afternoon sessions · Monday 6th October at Sheffield University – morning or afternoon sessions. These events are designed for: Employers – help us to ensure the Diploma equips students with the right skills, knowledge and experience needed for employment. Those working in Higher Education – help us to ensure the Diploma is rigorous, and equips students for education beyond school. School and college providers and those with specialist subject interest – help us to ensure the Diploma meets the needs of your students and subject area. These events give you the opportunity to contribute to the design and development of the Diploma, in particular to help identify the concepts and topics that should form the content. If you would like to attend an event, or require more information, please e-mail: C.White.6@warwick.ac.uk to register an interest, stating the venue and time you would prefer. We will contact you to confirm your place and further joining details. If you are unable to attend one of these events, don’t worry – you won’t miss out! We will shortly be conducting an online consultation exercise where you can give us your views (details will shortly appear on the Languages Diploma page of the GoSkills website) For more information, please see the conference website.

FAROES project: Realising a Shared Repository of Language Resources for TeachersClick to expand arrow

Date: 15 October, 2008
Location: University of Portsmouth (Park Building)
Event type: Workshop

Come and experience a new way of finding, managing and sharing your language-teaching resources as the best principles of Web 2.0 meet Language Teaching! The FAROES project, led by the Learning Societies Lab, at the University of Southampton and in association with the University of Portsmouth, is ready to present and test a beta version of the FAROES LanguageShare. The project team have taken the best-practice principles of Web 2.0 sites - that they are social, interlinked, evolving, flexible, visually exciting and easy to use, and created the prototype FAROES LanguageShare, a lightweight repository for language teachers to store, manage and share their resources. We are now ready to show the world for the first time at a day-long workshop, to be held at the University of Portsmouth. There is no fee to attend this event, and lunch plus all refreshments will be provided. Reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed. For more information, please see the conference website.
