CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS DEADLINE - Monday 13 October 2014
Do you make innovative use of technology in language teaching and learning? Have you been experimenting with MOOCs and wish to share your experiences? Do you use social networking sites, virtual worlds or mobile technology with your language students? Are you engaging students in the creation or use of open educational resources? If so, then the LLAS community would like to hear from you!
LLAS, Centre for Languages, Linguistics, and Area Studies welcomes proposals for presentations, workshops and posters at the 10th annual e-learning symposium, on 22/3 January, 2015. Abstracts for proposed presentations or workshops should be no more than 400 words. Read more...

At a time when Britain's continued membership of both the European Union and the European Convention of Human Rights is the subject of active discussion, Free Word and English PEN have invited five leading writers and thinkers to address - in a series of essays and a discussion - the question of our future relationship with Europe and what might be the new narratives for Europe in an interdependent world.

"Creating a MOOC : an insider's view", Kate Borthwick, LLAS
The University of Southampton is currently working with the British Council to produce a free, open online course on the topic of language teaching.
Understanding Language: learning and teaching will be offered through FutureLearn from November 17th – December 15th, and will consist of four weeks offering a taster of topics related to language learning and teaching: what it means to learn language; consideration of how language classrooms impact on learning; the use of technology for language learning, and a case study of the most learnt language in the world -English. These are topics which feature in the British Council/University of Southampton online MA in English Language Teaching.
