What is the Languages Box?
The Languages Box is a unique body of materials produced in 2002 by the Subject Centre and a number of Embassies and Cultural Institutes to promote language study in Higher Education. Higher Education staff visiting schools and giving presentations on languages will find the materials a useful resource. If you want to know if your institution received a Languages Box, email the Subject Centre (llas@soton.ac.uk) or search our contacts for schools.
What is in the Languages Box?
- CD-Rom: 'Why Study Languages?'
This PowerPoint presentation can be used for visits to schools or at University open days. - 'Why Study Languages?' Resources File
This accompanies the CD-Rom and includes tips for using the presentation, overhead transparencies of the key slides and useful articles and reports. - Publicity materials
The box includes materials for the following languages: Dutch, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish. - Video: 'English is not enough'

How can I get a Languages Box?
A complementary copy of the Languages Box has been sent to all HEIs where modern languages are taught. If you do not know who has received the box in your institution, please contact Sue Nash at the Subject Centre (llas@soton.ac.uk) but we regret that no more boxes are available.
How can I arrange a visit from a local Higher Education Institution to my school?
