Title:
Asymptotically safe quantum gravity - towards an understanding of quantum spacetime and matter
Abstract:

I will introduce the basic ideas underlying the asymptotic safety scenario, and explain how it could provide a way to quantise gravity in the quantum field theory framework. This will provide an understanding of the fundamental microscopic quantum structure of spacetime.
I will review the main theoretical evidence for the realisation of the asymptotic safety scenario in quantum gravity, and briefly explain how the cosmological constant problem could be addressed in this setting.
I will then focus on possible phenomenological implications, showing that coupling dynamical matter degrees of freedom to this quantum gravity model could open a window into the phenomenological quantum gravity regime.
