Having built four future scenarios in our last workshop with ORCHID team members, Victoria and I went back to Building 32 to brainstorm possible disasters that could emerge from each of them. Working with Alex Rogers, Gopal Ramchum, Trung Dong Huynh and Victor Naroditskiy, we established a framework for thinking about disasters that borrowed equally from the World Health Organisation (WHO) Collaborating Centre for Research on the Epidemiology of Disasters (CRED) and French theorist Paul Virilio. CRED, in its Emergency Events Database (EM-DAT), distinguishes between natural disasters and technological disasters, while Virilio focuses on war, terrorism and  the power of disinformation. We captured our thinking in a document which will be made available soon. Our final ORCHID workshop later this year will be about disaster response.
