e-Learning Symposium 2015, University of Southampton, 22-23 January 2015
CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS - Come and celebrate our 10th anniversary

Do you make innovative use of technology in language teaching and learning? Have you been experimenting with MOOCs and wish to share your experiences? Do you use social networking sites, virtual worlds or mobile technology with your language students? Are you engaging students in the creation or use of open educational resources? If so, then the LLAS community would like to hear from you!

LLAS, Centre for Languages, Linguistics, and Area Studies welcomes proposals for presentations, workshops and posters at the 10th annual e-learning symposium, on 22/3 January, 2015. Abstracts for proposed presentations or workshops should be no more than 400 words. Read more...

 

Third Year Abroad Answers
TYA Answers is dedicated to students who want their questions about studying or working abroad during their degree answered. It's also the perfect place to pass on the benefit of your experience to the next generation of students, by answering their questions. Topics include the Erasmus programme, what it's like studying languages at university, careers for 'Global Graduates,' doing an internship abroad and more. TYA Answers is funded by HEFCE as part of Routes into Languages, and is a product of Third Year Abroad Ltd, trading as ThirdYearAbroad.com. Read more…

Do you know any inspirational language champions? 
Nominations are now open for the 2014 Threlford Memorial Cup, an award presented annually by the Chartered Institute of Linguists Educational Trust for a significant contribution to ‘fostering the study of languages’. The Cup can be awarded to a person, organisation or project that deserves to be recognised within the field of language study. Please download this form to make your nomination. The deadline for nominations is Friday 5 September, and the IoLET Awards Evening is to be held at the Barbican, London, on Thursday 6 November 2014. "French with Plymouth University", Charles Mansfield, Plymouth University

From September 2014 French can be studied from first year undergraduate, right through to postgraduate level with Plymouth University in Devon.  French language had for many years been available from an ab initio level to final year degree-level but the move by Modern Languages into the School of Tourism & Hospitality in 2009 provided the opportunity to develop a French Culture & Society strand for all tourism undergraduates.  In 2013 this was fully rolled out, with the culture modules, as well as the language modules being made available as options to students from other degrees across Plymouth University.  This meant that Plymouth effectively had a French Studies department with approximately 100 students involved in French language or French culture at a level appropriate to their degree.

  • LSE Middle East Centre job vacancy - Projects CoordinatorThe MEC is seeking a Projects Coordinator to run the Centre’s Academic Collaboration with the Arab Universities Programme and its student scholarships programme. The post-holder will also manage other research projects and contribute to the Centre’s communications, events and fundraising activities. This is a new position which has been created owing to the expansion of the Centre. Applications must be received by 4 September 2014 (midnight UK time).  Read more...
