Perhaps the defining characteristic of autonomous agents is that they are capable of substituting for human labour. As such, many suspect that the development of technologies enabling such agents will have significant impact on employment, replacing humans in many jobs previously thought immune to automation. We performed a study of which jobs in particular are likely to be impacted by these new technologies, and concluded that around 47% of current US employment is susceptible to automation over the next twenty years or so. We further found that most at risk were predominately low-wage, low-skilled jobs in office, logistics, sales and service occupations. The full working paper, and news release, can be found here.
