Charlie Martin MPhys Physics, 2014
Trainee Medical Physicist NHS
I chose to study Physics as it fascinated me at A-Level. I chose the University of Southampton because of its good reputation and green campus.
My advice to current students is to look for the jobs you don't even know exist yet.
After graduating, I went on to become a Trainee Medical Physicist on the NHS’s Scientist Training Program (STP) at Poole Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. It’s been fantastic to begin a career in an area where I can use the physics I learned and apply it to something very tangible and worthwhile.
I’m using the time management and organisational skills developed over the course of my physics degree. As part of the program I’m undertaking an MSc in Medical Physics part-time and applying the academic skills I developed at Southampton for the MSc project.
My advice to current students is to look for the jobs you don't even know exist yet. I had no idea this was a field I could get into, so scour the web and find what could be your dream job.
