The University of Southampton

Krystina Turnbull MPhys Physics, 2011

Head of Careers

The vibe given off by both staff and students at open days felt comfortable for me, and convinced me to study at the University of Southampton.

I would recommend studying at the University of Southampton. The University helped me to learn about myself and my priorities, as well as giving me an excellent grounding in physics.

Putting my skills to use in teaching

After graduating, I did some temp work as a teaching assistant in a special educational needs class. The students were in full need of our help and assistance, and I was able to develop my skills in personal communication with young people.

I now work as a physics teacher at a state boarding school. I am Head of Careers in the school and require the use of much of the information I learned on my physics degree, as well as my interpersonal skills and the skills required to teach young people. My time management skills are now excellent in comparison to the skills I had before university.

My advice to students

If you’re a prospective student, my advice is to look for the university and course where you feel most comfortable. And consider your prospects for after university.
