My PhD project looks at the attitudes of Chinese university teachers’ and students’ towards their own and other English accents in the framework of English as a lingua franca (ELF), and explores how their attitudes towards different accents might affect their identity. My main subject is Medieval Palaeography which is a discipline that studies ancient musical notations. I usually work with high quality digital images: these are basically pictures taken from medieval manuscripts where I find music that I have to decode and sometimes translate into modern notation.
