9. HEA: Education for sustainable development: call for funding

The Academy Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) project has set aside 40k to fund at least 10 small projects during 2006/7, with a maximum of 4k per project. Since both subject centres and subject communities are at very different points of development with regard to ESD, bids are welcomed from subject centres themselves; or through subject centres from people within their subject communities. In the first instance only one bid per subject centre will be funded. Deadline for bids is noon on July 14th. See the Subject Centre website for further details.

10. Graduate entrepreneurs wanted!

LLAS would like to identify about ten languages, linguistics or Area Studies graduates who have built careers as freelancers, started their own businesses, been self-employed or mixed any of these with paid employment in a 'portfolio' career. We would like to interview these graduates as part of a Higher Education Academy study of enterprising careers amongst humanities graduates. Please contact llas@soton.ac.uk if you are able to help.

11. Linking teaching and research: call or case studies

The Higher Education Academy Supporting New Academic Staff (SNAS) project is seeking case studies from disciplines including Languages, Linguistics and Area Studies. After 25 case studies have been entered from across all the Subject Centres in the project, one will be randomly drawn out of an electronic hat and win the voucher. The same will happen every time 25 more case studies have been submitted up to the time they total 200. We expect you will like to win - but first you have to send a case study! Please send your case studies BY 30 JUNE 2006 to John Canning. Once edited the case studies will be displayed on the LLAS Web Site and there will be a direct link from The Academy SNAS Project Web site. For further details please go to the Subject Centre website.

12. Internationalism of the Curriculum and support for international students

As part of our programme of activity on the internationalisation of higher education the Higher Education Academy has commissioned a literature review and is putting out a call for case studies of practice in the areas of internationalisation of the curriculum and support for international students. The HEA welcome contributions from colleagues to both these initiatives which are being undertaken to build resources for the sector and to facilitate debate on the enhancement of the student learning experience through internationalisation.
