Area Studies library collections
The Area Studies library collection is the product of a short project funded by the Subject Centre to discover and disseminate information about library collections held by UK universities which might be of interest to colleagues in Area Studies and related disciplines. It is a work in progress and, as such, we would be very interested to hear of links to other databases, websites etc. which provide information about such collections (email llas@soton.ac.uk).

Background
The information has been gathered primarily from relevant university subject librarians and consists of a brief outline of the material type (i.e. books, journals and videos), the subject of the collection (i.e. cinema, economics and law), the area it relates to and any special information regarding access to the collection. The information itself has been provided by the librarians who work with the collections and the details were assumed to be correct at the time of submittance of each form. It is envisaged that details of further collections, and in particular those housed outside university libraries, will be added by colleagues teaching and supporting Area Studies.
We would like to thank those who have already been kind enough to assist with this project and anyone who adds information on other collections in the future. We would also like to acknowledge Tony Chafer at the University of Portsmouth (who proposed the project) and the Library of the London School of Economics and Political Science for supporting it.
