Location: Liverpool Hope University
Event type: Conference
The PRHE organisers are calling for submissions of abstracts (300 words) for papers and posters (research or theoretical/conceptual). All abstracts for both types of submission will be independently reviewed by two referees. In particular, we are looking for submissions that are empirically and/or theoretically based rather than un-theorised descriptions of practice. Authors of accepted papers (not posters) will be given the opportunity for redrafting after the conference for publication in a special conference issue of PRIME (Pedagogical Research in Maximising Education) to be distributed to every conference delegate. 30 November 2007 is the deadline for receipt of abstracts and 1 February 2008 is the date for notification of acceptance. For more information, please see the conference website.

The conference will bring together issues, key evidence and recommendations for action by HEIs and relevant sectoral bodies. A mix of plenaries, discussion sessions and case study presentations will offer opportunities to explore ways of tackling differential attainment. In identifying practices HEIs can use to address statutory requirements to promote equality of opportunity, this conference will also explore the benefits derived from creating inclusive and fair learning and assessment experiences for all students. For more information, please see the conference website.

Event type: Conference
The linguistic aspects of postcolonial writing and the stylistic aspects of language in postcolonial contexts are under-researched areas. These domains engage creative writers and academic scholars in equal measure, and this conference aims to map some of the new research that is being done at the intersections between postcolonial writing, linguistics and criticism. Some of the topics covered will include: Caribbean poetics and linguistics, African pidgins and language contact, postcolonial theories of translation, Indian and African postcolonial literature and heteroglossia. This one-day conference will showcase research in these areas at Newcastle as well as invited papers from key researchers in these domains both nationally and internationally. For Further details and to download a registration form, please visit the conference website.
