Athens and Piraeus

The conference will take place at the “THEATRON” at the Cultural Center “Hellenic Cosmos” at the Foundation of the Hellenic World (FHW) (254 Pireos Str., Tavros, Athens)

As for the rest of the participants, here are the most common means of transportation in the city of Athens and Piraeus towards the conference venue – “THEATRON” – and/or the recommenced hotels.


Always keep in mind that the Bus Stop right outside “THEATRON” is: “Kalon Technon”.


a) Getting to your hotel and/or the “THEATRON


If you are travelling by plane to Athens, Greece, from Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” you have the following options:


? Taxi (Cab)

You can take a taxi (cab) from Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” to Athens or Piraeus (cost at around 30.00 euros). You can ask the driver to leave you at Syntagma Square (or at Omonia Square) or at the center of Piraeus accordingly.


? Bus

You can take the X96 bus route to the center of Piraeus (duration of route 60-80 minutes) or the X95 bus route to Syntagma Square (approximately same duration of route). Tickets cost 3.20 euros (one way).


From there you can take a taxi (cab) to your hotel or to the conference venue. It will cost you about 5.00-15.00 euros depending on the traffic and on which hotel you are going.


Alternatively:

a) From Piraeus (“Piraeus Train Station”, see Local Guide) you can get a train (ticket costs 1.00 euro) and get off at “Kallithea” Train Station – the venue is a few minutes walk from “Kallithea” Train Station (see map below); or you can take a taxi (cab) that will cost you no more than 3.00-4.00 euros.


If you are moving to your hotel, Hotel Piraeus Theoxenia and Hotel Savoy can easily be reached with a taxi (cab) and Hotel Coral can be reached by Tram: from SEF (Terminal Station) take Tram Line 3 or 4 and get off at Tram Stop “Flisvos”.


b) From Syntagma Square you can board on Metro Line 1 to Monastiraki (“Monastiraki” Train & Metro Station, see Local Guide), then get the train (ticket costs 1.00 euro) and get off at “Kallithea” Train Station – the venue is a few minutes walk from “Kallithea Train Station” (see map below); or you can take a taxi (cab) that will cost you no more than 3.00-4.00 euros.


If your are moving to hotels located at the center of Athens (Polis Grand Hotel, Kaningos 21 Hotel and Jason Prime Hotel), from Syntagma Square you can either take a taxi (cab) (short duration of route) or board on Line 2 (Aghios Dimitrios) (Metro) and get off at Omonia Stop; from there hotels can be reached be taxi (cab) or by taking a short walk

? Suburban Railway [Proastiakos]


Note: Departures are scheduled every 15 minutes


You can take the Suburban Railway [Proastiakos] from Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” (tickets cost 6.00 euros) and get off either at “Doukisis Plakentias” Stop or “Neratziotissa” Stop (duration of route is 20 minutes approximately in both cases).


a) From “Doukisis Plakentias” Stop you can board on Metro Line 3 to Monastiraki (“Monastiraki” Train & Metro Station, see Local Guide), then change train for Line 1 (Pireas to Kifisia) taking direction to Piraeus and get off at “Kallithea” Train Station – the venue is a few minutes walk from “Kallithea Train Station” (see map below); or you can take a taxi (cab) that will cost you no more than 3.00-4.00 euros.


b) From “Neratziotissa” Stop you can take train for Line 1 (Pireas to Kifisia) taking direction to Piraeus and get off at “Kallithea” Train Station – the venue is a few minutes walk from “Kallithea Train Station” (see map below); or you can take a taxi (cab) that will cost you no more than 3.00-4.00 euros.


? Metro (Underground)


Important Note!

From February 14th, 2009, service on Metro Line 3 is interrupted on the section “Ethniki Amyna” – “Doukisis Plakentias” – “Airport”, and Line 3 terminates at “Ethniki Amyna” Station.. However, services on all other Metro Lines operate normally.


b) Getting to the “THEATRON” from your hotel


Here are some transportation options for participants and attendees to the venue. Please keep in mind that the suggested hotels (see Accommodation) are located at the center of Athens, Paleo Faliro and Piraeus.


Options for local transport from the hotels to the “THEATRON” are as follows:


? Polis Grand Hotel (19 Patision & 10 Veranzerou Str., 104 32 Athens)

? Kaningos 21 Hotel (12 Chalkokondili Str., 134 67 Athens)


You can take the 049 bus route (Omonia to Piraeus) and get off at bus stop Kalon Technon right in front of the venue (254 Pireos Str.).


? Jason Prime Hotel (3 Nikiforou Str, 104 37 Athens)


You can take the 049 bus route (Omonia to Piraeus) from bus stop IKA and get off at bus stop Kalon Technon right in front of the venue (254 Pireos Str.).


? Hotel Coral (35 Possidonos Ave., 175 61 Paleo Faliro (Athens))


You can board on Tram Line 3 “Thukididis” (Asklipio Voula to SEF) or Tram Line 4 “Aristotelis” (Syntagma to SEF) at Tram Stop Flisvos and get off at SEF (terminal station). From there you can get the train (Paleo Faliro Station) (ticket costs 1.00 euro) and get off at Tavros Station or Kallithea Station – the venue is only a few minutes walk from there; or you can take a taxi (cab) that will cost you no more than 3.00-4.00 euros.


? Savoy Hotel (93 Iroon Polytechniou Ave., 185 36 Piraeus (Athens))

? Hotel Piraeus Theoxenia (23 Karaoli Dimitriou Str., 185 31 Piraeus (Athens))


You can take a taxi (cab), it should take less than 10 minutes depending on the traffic and get to Paleo Faliro (Paleo Faliro Station / SEF). From there you can get the train and get off at Tavros Station or Kallithea Station – the venue is only a few minutes walk from there; or you can take a taxi (cab) that will cost you no more than 3.00-4.00 euros.
